The Making of Contemporary Hijrah: Hadith, Digital Culture, and Millennial Muslim Religiosity in Padangsidimpuan, Indonesia

Abstract
This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of hijrah among millennial Muslims, now no longer interpreted solely as physical or spiritual displacement, but has undergone a transformation into a religious lifestyle that is full of symbolism, identity, and social trends. In fact, textually, the hadiths about hijrah contain theological and historical dimensions that are rich in meaning and contextual. This study aims to deconstruct the meaning of hijrah as enshrined in the hadith, as well as criticize how these values are interpreted and practiced by the millennial generation in the city of Padangsidimpuan. Using the ma'ani al-ḥadīṡ approach and Derrida's deconstructive analysis, this study is based on a qualitative-descriptive method with data collection techniques through the study of hadith texts, semi-structured interviews with millennial Muslims, and participatory observation of hijrah community spaces. This approach allows a rereading of the meaning of hijrah which has been constructed normatively and tends to be singular. The results of the study show that there is a shift in the meaning of hijrah from hadith texts that are full of spirituality to religious practices that intersect with identity expressions, symbolic consumption, and religious imagery. Deconstruction of the meaning of hijrah reveals the ambiguity between substantial and performative piety. This phenomenon shows that millennial religiosity is inseparable from the dynamics of popular culture and the search for spiritual existence in the modern social space.
